The Winter Spiti Expedition is one of the best adventure trips anyone can do during the winters in the Himalayas to experience snow. Winter Spiti Expedition is all about a cold desert mountain valley high in the Himalayan Mountains in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh’s north-eastern corner. The word “Spiti” means “Middle Ground,” referring to the region that lies between Tibet and India.

Itinerary

Our Winter Spiti Expedition will start from Delhi Volvo Bus Stand at Majnu Ka Tilla by evening. Shimla is almost 350 km away from Delhi and it will take 9 to 10 hours. Volvo will be in charge of your comfort concerns during the overnight journey. That is all for the first day in Winter Spiti Expedition.
Reach Shimla by morning. Check into the Hotel. After breakfast, we will proceed for a half-day excursion to Kufri (2500mts). Also, visit Indira Bungalow & the Himalayan Zoo (closed on Monday). By afternoon: Dropped off to Shimla Mall Road for own exploration. Overnight at Shimla.
Today, drive to the last village of India, Chitkul, as river Baspa will be at your right side. On the way, you will pass through Rakcham village. Chitkul is situated at 3450m height. Chitkul is the last Indian village on the India-China border and offers a beautiful valley. According to the Centre of Atmospheric Sciences at IIT Delhi, Chitkul has the cleanest air in India. Overnight stay at Chitkul/Sangla.
By morning after breakfast, we will start our journey to Tabo. The destination is around 210 km from Chitkul/Sangla and would take almost 7 hours. En route, we will cross through Sumdo Border and Ka loops. Tabo is famous for its ancient monastery, which is awarded a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Visit the oldest monastery in Spiti Valley – Tabo Monastery. Overnight stay at Kaza.
Today, we will drive to Kaza, which is around 70 km away from Tabo. We will reach Kaza by the afternoon. The old town is located on the outer edge of the city, and the major attraction here is an ancient monastery. Visit Hikkim, the location of the World’s Highest Post Office. Also, visit Komic, the highest village connected by a motorable road in Spiti. Visit Langza, very famous for the Buddha Statue. Overnight at Kaza.
Today, we will explore the magnificent beauty of Kaza. Visit the Key Monastery, situated at 4166m in height, which is the most scenic monastery in Spiti Valley. Also, visit the highest suspension bridge in Asia – The Chicham Bridge, which is quite an astounding spectacle at that. The bridge is at a staggering height of 13596 ft and connects the two villages named Chicham and Kibber. Overnight at Kaza.
Today, we will move back to Kalpa. En route, visit Dhankar Monastery, which is situated at a height of 3894m. Dhankar is the confluence of the Spiti River & Pin River. Reach Kalpa by evening. Overnight at Kalpa.
By morning, we will depart for Shimla. Reach Shimla by evening. By evening, board the vehicle & overnight journey to Delhi.
The overnight journey will be in a Bus. The next day morning, reach Delhi. This is where the most amazing Winter Spiti Expedition comes to an end.
